TV Guide: Jessness 2pm

A couple weekends’ ago I tried something new and signed myself up for a one-day intensive acting course with Studio 111 here in Auckland. It was fun; we did all kinds of acting exercises and activities.

Favorite: Knee tag, this was an icebreaker activity in the beginning of the day. The object of the game was to go around and tag as many people on the back of their knee as possible. Interesting really, the back of the knee doesn’t ever get too much attention so that alone was a funny feeling. Not to mention the way everyone looked gunning for everyone’s knee-backs. (knee-backs? Just go with it) All hunched over darting around laughing the entire time. Hilarious.

Most awkward: We paired up with a partner and had to star into the other person’s eyes for 2 whole minutes. Your hands couldn’t be behind you or in front of you they had to be right by your side. There you are for 120 seconds, just starring into a strangers eyes. If that’s not awkward enough, after the exercise you were to tell the other person what you “see” in their eyes. What kind of person they are, what they are like, interests, anything you pick up from looking into their eyes. All three of my partners mentioned they saw:: determination/that I know what I want, and that I am creative. Nail on the head! There were other things but all three mentioned those. The exercise was to focus on the other person so much to where you become comfortable, relaxed, and don’t notice the other person looking into you. In acting a lot of scenes require focusing on the other person allowing yourself to rid your own self-judgements, making situations seem genuine and real.

Kinda like the starring contests I have with my PB&J.
We are IAR.

Coolest: We did a mock commercial auction for a chocolate commercial; we taped it and watched it back at the end of the day.
